The wrong screen appears when you click a topic on the Help screen in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (909587)

SYMPTOMS

When you click the Media Center Help icon (?) in Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, the following topics appear on the Media Center Help screen.

When you click one of these topics, click Back, and then quickly click a different topic, the wrong screen appears. For example, if you click Help, the Media Center Assistance screen appears. However, if you then click Back, and then you immediately click Tips, the Media Center Assistance screen appears again. In this situation, you expect the MEDIA CENTER TIPS screen to appear.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you use the mouse to click topics in rapid succession on the Media Center Help screen. This problem occurs because there is a delay before the focus is correctly set on a topic on the Help screen. When you click a topic before the focus on a topic is correctly set, the previous topic appears.

Note The focus is correctly set when a green border appears around the topic.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, rest the pointer over the topic that you want on the Help screen. Then, wait until the green border appears around the topic before you click that topic.

Tip To set the focus more quickly, rest the pointer over the icon that is below the text in each topic, as in the following examples:
  • To set the focus on the Help topic, rest the pointer over the question-mark icon (?).
  • To set the focus on the Forums topic, rest the pointer over the globe icon.
  • To set the focus on the Tips topic, rest the pointer over the light-bulb icon.
  • To set the focus on the Hardware topic, rest the pointer over the Media Center Remote icon.
Alternatively, use the Media Center remote or the arrow keys on the keyboard to select topics on the Help screen.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
