You receive a "Runtime Error" error message when you start Fable: The Lost Chapters (909384)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Fable: The Lost Chapters, you receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Runtime Error! C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Fable - The Lost Chapters\Fable.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if one of the following conditions is true:
  • The Direct 3D Acceleration feature is disabled.
  • The Direct 3D Acceleration feature is missing.
  • The Direct 3D Acceleration feature is damaged.
Note This issue has also been reported to occur with certain types of video hardware that must be upgraded to meet the minimum system requirements for Fable: The Lost Chapters. Before you follow the steps in the "Resolution" section, you should make sure that your video hardware is not in this category. RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag, and then click OK.
  2. Click the Display tab. In the DirectX Features area, make sure that DirectDraw Acceleration and Direct3D Acceleration are enabled.
  3. If either feature is disabled, click Enable next to the disabled feature.
  4. Click OK when you are prompted.
  5. If multiple video adaptors are installed on the computer, repeat steps 2 through 4 on each Display tab.
  6. Click Exit to close the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
