FIX: A Transaction Integrator Windows Initiated Processing COM object does not install correctly when the Version property for the object is set to 10 or more in Host Integration Server 2004 (909371)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You are running Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004. You have a Transaction Integrator (TI) Windows Initiated Processing (WIP) Microsoft Component Object Model (COM) object. The Version property for the TI WIP COM object is set to 10 or more. In this scenario, the TI WIP COM object does not install correctly in TI Manager, and you may experience the following behavior:
  • After you install the object by using the Object Wizard in TI Manager, the object appears to install successfully. When you click Finish, you may receive the following error message:
    HIP Manager
(5570) The Snap-in encountered 1 Object(s) (TICs) that may have been created by a later version of the Snap-in, or are corrupted. Review the Event Log for details.
Note The error message is titled HIP Manager. However, the error is in WIP, host-initiated processing (HIP).
  • After you try to install the TI WIP COM object, the object appears in TI Manager as an installed object. If you select the object, no methods appear in the right pane even though methods are defined in the TI WIP COM object.
  • If you receive the "5570" error message when you install the TI WIP COM object, you receive the following error message if you try to delete the object in TI Manager:
    Delete operation has failed
    Error Message: Cannot delete "myTest.Version.10"
Description: (5113) Failed to remove Object Object with IDENTITY=12 from its Parent.
  • If you right-click the object in TI Manager and then click Properties, you receive the following error message:
An error has occured in CHipNode::Refresh
(5542) Error occurred in accessing the registry for Type Library {636BF877-5117-4821-A6B5-712AF89DFBFB}, detail: (5504) Failed to open the Subkey 10.0 for Read, error: The system cannot find the file specified.
Note The word "occurred" in spelled incorrectly in this error message.
  • If you close and then reopen TI Manager, the TI WIP COM object is not listed, and you receive the following error message:
    HIP Manager
(5570) The Snap-in encountered 1 Object(s) (TICs) that may have been created by a later version of the Snap-in, or are corrupted. Review the Event Log for details.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, set the value of the Version property of the TI WIP COM object to 9 or less.

MORE INFORMATION

Until you successfully remove the offending TI WIP COM object, you receive the following error message every time that you open TI Manager:
HIP Manager
(5570) The Snap-in encountered 1 Object(s) (TICs) that may have been created by a later version of the Snap-in, or are corrupted. Review the Event Log for details.
To remove the TI WIP COM object, follow these steps:
  1. Open TI Manager.

Note You receive the "5570" error message.
  2. Install the TI WIP COM object again by using the Object Wizard. To do this, right-click Objects, click New, and then select the TI WIP COM object.
  3. After the object appears to be installed, right-click the object, and then click Delete.
If the TI WIP COM object is no longer available to reinstall, you can remove the object by removing a registry key. To do this, follow these steps:

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cedar\TIC registry key.
  3. Examine the Name value for each key that is listed under the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cedar\TIC key. If the Name value shows a version that is 10 or more, delete that registry key.

Note Do not delete registry keys for installed TI objects that are working correctly.
