SYMPTOMS

When you use the Xbox 360 Advanced SCART AV Cable to connect the Xbox 360 console to the TV, you may experience sound issues, such as no sound or sound that is distorted.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • The SCART cable is not connected correctly.
  • The SCART cable is faulty or is damaged.
  • The audio settings in the Xbox Dashboard are incorrect.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. Determine whether the symptom occurs with only one or two discs, or if the symptom occurs with more than two discs.
    • If this behavior occurs with only one or two discs, search the Microsoft Knowledge Base for known issues for the particular discs.
    • If no known issues exist, return the discs to the retailer.

  4. Confirm that you connected the console correctly.
    • Verify that you are directly connecting the Xbox 360 console to your television or VCR. If this is not the case, connect the cable directly to the television or VCR.
    • Verify that the speakers are on and that the volume is turned up.
    • Verify that the cables are firmly and correctly connected.
    • If the Xbox 360 console connects to a VCR, test by connecting directly to the TV to eliminate any VCR configuration issues.
    • If you have access to another TV, test by connecting the console to a different TV.
  5. If you can only hear mono sound or you hear sound out of only some speakers, make sure that the audio settings are correct in the Xbox Dashboard. To configure the audio settings, follow these steps:
    1. Move to the System section of the Xbox Dashboard.
    2. Select Console Settings, and then select Audio to change your audio output settings.
    3. Select Dolby Pro Logic II.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, contact the stereo hardware manufacturer for more help.
  6. If steps 1 through 5 do not resolve the issue, the cable may be faulty and may have to be replaced.
  7. If the replacement cable does not resolve the issue, Microsoft may have to service the console.
