CAUSE

  • The Xbox Dashboard settings incorrectly configured.
  • The S-video cable is faulty or is damaged.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. Determine whether the symptom occurs with only one or two discs, or if the behavior occurs with more than two discs.

  3. Verify that you are using a Microsoft-licensed or a Microsoft-compatible AV cable. If this is not the case, contact the manufacturer for help connecting the AV cable or obtain a Microsoft-compatible AV cable.
  4. Confirm that the console is correctly connected:
    1. Verify that you are directly connecting the Xbox 360 console to your television or VCR. If this is not the case, connect the cable directly to the television or VCR.
    2. Verify that the speakers are on and that the volume is up.
    3. Verify the cables are firmly connected and correctly connected. Note that there are two red connectors on this cable, one with a red band and the other is solid red. The solid red cable is the right audio connector. The solid white is the left audio connector.
    4. If you are connecting to a VCR, try connecting directly to the TV to eliminate any settings issues on the VCR.
    5. If you have access to another TV, connect the console to a different TV.
  5. If you can only hear mono sound or hear sound out of only some speakers, verify that Dolby Pro Logic II is selected in the Xbox Dashboard. To configure the audio settings:
    1. Move to the System section of the Xbox Dashboard.
    2. Select Console Settings, and then select Audio to change your audio output settings.
    3. If this does not resolve the issue, contact the stereo hardware manufacturer for more help.
  6. If steps 1 through 5 do not resolve the issue, the cable may be faulty and may have to be replaced.
  7. If the replacement cable does not resolve the issue, Microsoft may have to service the console.
