Xbox 360: You receive the "Can't Contact PC" error message (909168)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Xbox Video Game System

SYMPTOMS

When you try to connect an Xbox 360 console to a Microsoft Windows XP Media Center-based computer, you receive the following error message:
Can't Contact PC

Your console can't contact your PC with Windows Media Center. Make sure your PC is on and connected to the network.

[Try again]
[Network Settings]

[Y- Set up a new connection]
[B- Back]
[A- Select]
[X- Cancel]

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Xbox 360 console cannot connect to the Windows XP Media Center-based computer on the network.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. Verify that you connected the Windows XP Media Center-based computer and the Xbox 360 console to the same network.
  2. Make sure that you turn on the computer and the console.

  1. You previously connected the console and the computer on the same network.
  2. You connected the Xbox 360 console to a different wireless network.
