SUMMARY

This article describes how to configure wireless settings on the Xbox 360 console for a wireless network that uses infrastructure mode.

MORE INFORMATION

Infrastructure mode is used when your wireless devices connect to a central wireless access point or router. For example, a desktop computer, an Xbox 360 console, and a portable computer can share the same Internet connection by connecting through a wireless router. The alternative to infrastructure mode is ad hoc mode. Ad hoc mode involves peer-to-peer connections that do not use a router. For example, a computer and an Xbox console can connect by using wireless adapters to share the Internet connection on the computer without using a wireless router.

To configure wireless settings on the Xbox 360 to use infrastructure mode, follow these steps:
  1. Turn on your wireless access point.
  2. In the System section of the Xbox Dashboard, select Network Settings.
    • If you have Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later installed on the computer, you can use the Windows Connect Now feature to configure your connection. For information about how to use the Windows Connect Now feature, visit the following Web site:
    • If you do not have Windows XP SP2 or later, or if you do not want to use the Windows Connect Now feature, go to the next step.
  3. Select Edit Settings.
  4. On the Basic Settings tab, select Wireless Settings.
  5. Select the wireless network name from the list that is displayed.

If you are connecting to a wireless network where the network name is not being broadcast, follow these steps:
    1. Select the Specify Unlisted Network option.
    2. Select the security type for the non-broadcast network.
    3. Enter the wireless security settings by using the on-screen keyboard.
  6. Enter your wireless security settings by using the on-screen keyboard.
  7. Select Apply, and then select Test when you are prompted to.
