Xbox 360: How to set the DVD Movie Ratings restriction (908213)

Xbox 360 supports DVD movie rating restrictions in the US, Canada, and Japan. Movies in the US and Canada are rated by using the MPAA system (G, PG, PG13, R, NC17). Movies in Japan are rated by using a numeric rating system. If the console's locale is set to something other than US, Canada, or Japan, the DVD Movie Ratings option is not available.

As a parent, guardian, or adult, you can restrict your underage child from viewing DVD movies based on the ratings. To restrict ability to play DVD movies, follow these steps:

1. Press the Xbox Guide button.
2. In the System section, select Family Settings.
3. Select Console Controls.
4. Select DVD Movie Ratings.
5. The default setting is Allow All DVD Movies. If you want to restrict this activity, select the appropriate restriction level.
6. Select Done to leave Console Controls.

Note A parent, guardian, or adult may temporarily override Family Settings on the console to allow for playing or viewing restricted content. Only movies that have the selected rating level or lower can be viewed on the console. By default, there will be no restrictions set. When a movie that has a rating that is higher than what is allowed on the console is played, a parent must enter the Family Settings pass code to override the restriction. If Allow all Movies is selected, you can play all DVDs. This includes the DVDs that are based on TV shows.
