SYMPTOMS

When you try to install the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), the installation process may unexpectedly quit.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the Windows XP user locale is set to a locale that the .NET Framework does not support.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Change the Windows XP user locale to a locale that the .NET Framework supports. For a list of the locales that the .NET Framework supports, visit the following Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) Web site:
  2. Install the .NET Framework 1.1 SP1.
  3. Change the locale back to the original setting.
