  • Xbox Video Game System

SUMMARY

This article describes how to prevent children from purchasing items through the Xbox Live Marketplace by using Family Settings.

MORE INFORMATION

When a child tries to make a purchase after the parent has set the disallow flag in Family Settings, all Xbox Live Marketplace items are displayed as usual, but the child receives an error message if the child tries to purchase an item. This restriction applies to all purchase points that are accessible from the marketplace or from elsewhere in the Xbox Dashboard. If the disallow flag is not set, there are no restrictions on what can be purchased.

Note There is one exception to this restriction: Purchases that are made by using prepaid codes are allowed regardless of whether the disallow flag is set.

To restrict a child's access to the Xbox Live Marketplace purchases through Family Settings, follow these steps:
  1. Move to the System section in the Xbox Dashboard.
  2. Select Family Settings.
  3. Select Xbox Live Controls.
  4. You can access the Xbox Live Marketplace controls through the Downloadable Content screen.
