Xbox 360: Console automatically turns off (907587)


The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you are using the Xbox 360 console, the console automatically turns off, but you do not receive any error messages. Two red indicator lights flash on the Ring of Light (ROL) or no lights flash on the Ring of Light.

CAUSE

This issue may occur when one or more of the following conditions are true:
  • The auto-off setting is turned on.
  • The console is overheated.
  • There is a problem with the power supply.

THINGS TO TRY

To troubleshoot this issue, try the following solutions:
  1. Make sure that the auto-off setting is not turned on. For more information about the auto-off setting, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  2. If two red lights are flashing on the Ring of Light, the console may be overheating. For more information about what to do if two red lights flash on the Ring of Light, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  3. Has this problem occurred repeatedly? If this occurrence is the only time that you have experienced this problem and the auto-off feature is not turned on, turn off the Xbox console for at least 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, try to reproduce the problem. Note how much time passes after you turn the console on before the console turns itself off.
  4. If no lights are flashing on the Ring of Light, examine the Xbox 360 external power supply lights. These lights may indicate a specific problem:
    • A green light indicates that the power supply is correctly functioning.

  5. If the symptoms continue to occur after you follow these steps, the console may have to be repaired by Microsoft.
