SUMMARY

This article describes how to remove a disc from the Xbox 360 disc drive.

MORE INFORMATION

To remove a disc, follow these steps:

Note Make sure that you remove the clear plastic protective strip from the front of the disc tray. This protective strip can prevent the disc tray from opening.

  1. Press the eject button to open the disc tray.

Note The power light flashes as the tray opens.

  2. Remove the disc.
  3. Press the eject button to close the disc tray. Alternatively, you can gently push the disc tray to close the tray.

Note The power light flashes as the tray closes.

More information about the disc drive

  • If the tray is open when you start the console, the tray automatically closes.
  • If the tray is open when you turn off the console, the tray automatically closes.
  • A jammed tray will cause the following behavior:
    • The console will reverse the tray direction. This behavior occurs whether you are trying to open or close the disc tray when the tray jams. For example, if the tray jams as the tray is closing, the console will try to reopen the tray.
    • If the tray will not reopen and the tray remains jammed, the console will automatically turn off the tray motor.
    • If you again press the eject button after the tray motor is turned off, the console will again turn on the tray motor and try to close the tray again.
  • As the disk tray opens or closes, the power light flashes.

Note The power light does not flash when the disc tray closes as the console is turning off. In this case, the power light remains off.

  • To avoid jamming the disc drive and damaging discs or the console, follow these precautions:
    • Never move the console while the disc tray is opening or closing.
    • Remove discs before you move the console or before you switch the console between the horizontal and vertical positions.
    • Never use damaged discs. Damaged discs can shatter inside the console and can jam or damage the internal components.
    • When the console is vertical, do not use discs that are smaller than standard DVDs or CDs.
Note If a disc is stuck in the disc tray, you can try to manually eject the disc. For more information about how to manually eject a disc from the disc tray, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
