Message Queuing 3.0 does not function as a supporting server after you apply Windows XP SP2 (907493)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Message Queuing 3.0
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2

SYMPTOMS

After you apply Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), Microsoft Message Queuing (also known as MSMQ) does not function as a supporting server.

Note If you need a supporting server, we recommend that you use a server-based operating system, such as Microsoft Windows Server 2003.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Windows XP SP2 supports a limited number of network connections and is optimized to function as a desktop operating system. Starting with Windows XP SP2, Message Queuing will no longer operate as a supporting server to Message Queuing-dependant clients. Additionally, a server-based operating system, such as Windows Server 2003, provides stronger security and is optimized to function in the role of a supporting server.

We also recommend that the installation for Message Queuing use independent clients instead of dependent clients.
