This article describes how to install the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks service and the Client for Microsoft Networks client on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional-based computer.

To successfully install the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks service and the Client for Microsoft Networks client, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type %windir%\inf, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and right-click the Netserv.inf file, and then click Install to install the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks service.
  3. Click Start, click Run, type %windir%\inf, and then click OK.
  4. Locate and right-click the Netmscli.inf file, and then click Install to install the Client for Microsoft Networks client.
  5. Copy the following files from the Windows 2000 Professional installation disk to the %windir%\inf directory:
    • Netcfg.exe
    • Netcfgx.dll
    • Msvcp50.dll
  6. Create a batch file by using the following syntax and name it Batch.cmd:
    regsvr32 /s %windir%\inf\Netcfgx.dll
    %windir%\inf\Netcfg.exe -v -l  %windir%\inf\netserv.inf -c s -i MS_Server
    %windir%\inf\Netcfg.exe -v -winpe
    
  7. Open a command prompt, type batch.cmd, and then press ENTER.
