FIX: An HTTPS request that you send by using the HttpWebRequest class does not use the proxy server that is specified in the application code in the .NET Framework 1.1 (907432)


The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, when you use the HttpWebRequest class to send an HTTPS request from a custom application, the HTTPS request does not use the proxy server that is specified in the application code.

Note You do not experience this problem when you use the HttpWebRequest class to send an HTTP request.

CAUSE

You experience the problem that is described in the "Symptoms" section when the HttpWebRequest class connects to the HTTPS server by using one of the following proxy servers:
  • The proxy server that is specified by the GlobalProxySelection.Select property.
  • The proxy server that is specified by Microsoft Internet Explorer.

RESOLUTION

Software update information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 service pack that contains this hotfix.
