SYMPTOMS

When you use the same account information on two computers that are running Groove Virtual Office, the computers do not share data. You may experience the following symptoms:
  • Workspace updates and messages are received on one computer but not the other computer.
  • Some contacts see you as offline. Other contacts see you as online.
  • Contacts and workspaces that are created on one computer do not appear on the other computer.

CAUSE

Each Groove account is created with a unique digital fingerprint. When you create a new account by using the same name, contact information, and activation key that you used for your old account, the old account is not re-created. Instead, a new account is created that is easily confused with your old account. The accounts do not belong to each other's spaces or receive each other's messages. Therefore, when you are available on Groove in one of the accounts, contacts that have information for your other account cannot reach you. If some of your contacts have information for both accounts, Groove communications may seem unreliable.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, delete one of the accounts. Then, put the other account on both computers. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Log on to Groove by using the account that you plan to save.
  2. On the Options menu, click Preferences, and then click the Identities tab.
  3. For each identity, click Save this Contact as File to save your contact information in a form that you can distribute.
  4. On the File menu, click Log Off Account to log off the Groove account that you plan to save.
  5. Log on to Groove by using the account that you plan to delete. If each account is on a different computer, switch to the computer that has the account that you plan to delete.
  6. Save any data that is unique to the account that you plan to delete:
    • If that account is the only member of a workspace, right-click the workspace, point to Save As, and then click Archive.
    • If the account that you plan to delete has contacts that the other account does not have, right-click each contact, and then click Save Contact as File.
  7. To remove your account listings, click Preferences on the Options menu, and then click the Identities tab. For both List me in boxes, click No Listing.
  8. To identify the account that you plan to delete, click Edit on the Identities tab, add delete me to the full name of your identity or identities, and then click OK.
  9. On the Options menu, click Communications Manager, and then wait until there are no bytes left to transmit so that you know that the changes have reached your Groove relay service and the Groove public directory.
  10. Send a message to each of your contacts to tell them to delete the appropriate account from their contact lists. Attach the contact file for the account that you saved, and tell your contacts to double-click the attached contact file to add your valid identity as a contact.
  11. Send a message to a manager in each of your workspaces to tell them to uninvite the sending account. Attach the contact file for the account that you saved, and tell the managers to invite that account to the workspace instead of the other account.
  12. On the Options menu, click Preferences, and then click the Account tab. Click Delete Account from this Computer, and then click OK.
  13. On the File menu, click Exit Groove. Then, restart Groove to initiate the deletion process.
  14. Quit Groove again to complete the deletion process.
