Xbox 360: You cannot add Xbox Live to an Xbox 360 gamer profile: The password that you entered is incorrect (906932)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to add Xbox Live to an Xbox 360 gamer profile, you receive the following error message:
The e-mail address or password you entered is not valid. Please try again.

CAUSE

This error occurs if you use incorrect Passport Network credentials when you try to add Xbox Live to an Xbox 360 gamer profile.

Note Your Passport Network credentials are the e-mail address and the password that you use to sign in to Passport Network sites.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. Reset your Passport Network credentials, and then try again.
    1. Reset your Passport Network credentials.
      • Reset your credentials by yourself.
        1. Visit http://www.passport.net, and then click Sign In.
        2. Click Forgot your password?, and then follow the instructions that appear on the screen to reset your Passport Network credentials.
      • Reset your credentials by contacting Customer Support.
        1. Visit http://www.passport.net, and then click Account Services.
        2. Click Get answers from Customer Support to view the Customer Support page.
        3. Click Contact us to view the Support Home page.
        4. On the Support Home page, complete the e-mail support form to request new Passport Network credentials. You can type a different e-mail address than the address that is associated with the Passport Network account.

          Note You will have to answer questions to verify your identity.

      If you cannot reset your Passport Network credentials, you must instead create a new Passport Network account to associate with your Xbox 360 gamer profile.
    2. Use your reset or new Passport Network credentials to add Xbox Live to your Xbox 360 gamer profile.

MORE INFORMATION

For Xbox support to reset your Passport Network credentials, you must have already associated the Passport Network account with an Xbox 360 gamer profile.
