Xbox 360: Requirements to sign up for Xbox Live (906919)

SUMMARY

Xbox Live for Xbox 360 has a different set of prerequisites than Xbox Live for the original Xbox video game system has. This article describes those prerequisites. For the complete list of prerequisites, see the Xbox Live for Xbox 360 retail package.

You must have the following prerequisites to create an Xbox Live-enabled profile:
  • An Xbox 360 Memory Unit or Xbox 360 Hard Drive to store profile information about the Xbox 360 console.
  • An e-mail address
  • A gamertag

    Note Gamertags have the following characteristics:
    • Are 1 to 15 characters long
    • Can contain the following characters: a through z, A through Z, 0 through 9, or spaces
    • Must start with a letter
    • Cannot include more than one consecutive space
    • Cannot end in a space
  • A Microsoft Windows Live ID account that contains the following information:
    • Country
    • Language (based on country)
    • Birth date
    • First name and last name
    • Alternative contact e-mail address
    • Secret question
    • Secret answer
    • Telephone number
  • Acceptance of the Xbox Live terms of use
Note Users age 12 and under, or 13 and under in Korea, have the following additional requirements:
  • A parent's Windows Live ID account
  • Consent from a parent to play on Xbox Live
  • Credit card information

    Note The following information is required:
    • First name and last name
    • Card type
    • Card number
    • Expiration date
