Error message when you try to open an Office 2003 file from an FTP site in Internet Explorer: "Could not open <URL>" (906723)

SYMPTOMSWhen you try to open a Microsoft Office 2003 file from a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) site in Microsoft Internet Explorer, the file does not open. Additionally, you receive the following error message: Could not open URL. When you click OK to close the error message, you receive the following error message: Microsoft Office program cannot access the file URL RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, copy the file from the FTP site, and then save it locally. After the file is saved, you can open the file. To save the file locally, follow these steps: - Start Internet Explorer, and then visit the FTP site.
- After you locate the file that you want to save locally, right-click the file, and then click Copy To Folder.
- In the Browse For Folder dialog box, click the folder in which you want to save the file.
- Click OK.
