SYMPTOMS

In Groove Virtual Office and in Groove Workspace, when another member of a shared workspace adds a large file to a Files tool, programs on your computer may run slowly until the file transfer is finished.

CAUSE

Groove requires network resources and computer resources to receive workspace data. If these resources are limited, Groove and other programs that use the resources may run slowly while those resources are being used to receive a file. For example, network resources may be limited if you use a dial-up connection.

WORKAROUND

If someone adds a large file or lots of data to a workspace, you can temporarily free resources. To do this, pause all communications for that workspace. However, you cannot selectively stop the transfer of data while you continue to synchronize the workspace.

To prevent this problem from occurring again, change the download properties for folders in the Files tool to limit the files that you automatically receive. For best results, use a limit that does not overload your computer resources or network resources.

To change the download properties of a folder, follow these steps:
  1. In the Files tool, right-click the root folder, and then click Properties.
  2. In the Folder name Properties dialog box, click the Download tab, and then perform one of the following actions:
    • Click Manual Download, and then click OK.
    • Click Limited Automatic Download, specify a maximum file size, and then click OK.
  3. If the root folder contains subfolders, you are prompted to confirm the folder property change and apply the changes to only the root folder or to the root folder and all its subfolders. To prevent all large files in the Files tool from being automatically transferred, click Apply change to this folder and subfolders. Then, click OK.
