SYMPTOMS

You use a Group Policy object (GPO) to create an application assignment on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer. After you apply a transform to the assignment, you may receive the following error message:
An error occurred accessing the software installation data in the active directory. See the event log for additional details.
Additionally, an error message that is similar to the following may be logged in the Application event log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Software Installation
Event Category: None
Event ID: 101

Description:
Software Installation encountered the following error: Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid.
