Xbox 360: How to set the HDTV settings (906663)

This article describes how to set or change your Xbox 360 high-definition television(HDTV) settings. This procedure is different depending on the type of audio visual (AV) cable that you use with your Xbox 360 console and the display unit that you use--for example, television, projector, and so on.

To configure HDTV settings, you must have an Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable or an Xbox 360 VGA HD VGA Cable. If you are using the Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable, make sure that you set the HDTV switch on the AV Connector to HDTV. To configure your HDTV settings, follow these steps:
  1. Start your console without a disc in the disc tray.
  2. In the System section of the Xbox Dashboard, select Console Settings.
  3. In the Console Settings area, select Display.
  4. In the Display Settings area, select HDTV Settings.
  5. In the HDTV Settings area, you can select from the following options:
    • 480p
    • 720p
    • 1080i
  6. Highlight the appropriate option, and then press the A button on your controller or on the remote control to select the option that you want.
  7. When you receive a confirmation message, select Yes, keep these settings.
If the screen does not appear within 10 seconds, your console will change back to the original setting.
