BUG: You may receive the 0x800c0008 error value when you submit a HTTPS POST request through the IMoniker::BindToStorage function and use the IStream interface to provide the HTTP POST data (906379)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer (Programming) 6.0, when used with:
    • Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
    • Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1

SYMPTOMS

When you submit an HTTP POST request through the IMoniker::BindToStorage function, you may receive the 0x800c0008 (-2146697208) error value for the POST request. You receive this error value through one of the parameters of the IBindStatusCallback::OnStopBinding function that you have implemented on the client program.

This problem may occur when all the following conditions are true:
  • You use the IMoniker::BindToStorage function to bind to the URL.
  • You use the IStream interface to provide the HTTP POST data.
  • You have a problem with the server certificate.
  • A new HTTP connection is used instead of the existing HTTP connection.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the URLMON module did not handle the certificate error correctly internally when the URLMON module established a new connection. When this behavior occurs, the URLMON module had to end the HTTP request because of the error.
