SYMPTOMS

When you change a transaction in Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting, you may receive the following warning message: You are modifying a transaction that is part of a reconciled bank statement. If you modify this transaction, the reconciliation will no longer be valid, and the entire reconciliation to which this transaction belongs will be lost. Do you want to continue?

CAUSE

You receive the warning message if the transaction is part of a reconciled bank statement.

RESOLUTION

When you receive the warning message, click Yes to continue, or click No to return to the transaction. If you click Yes, the changes that you made to the transaction will be saved. However, you must re-reconcile any transactions that became unreconciled. .

Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting handles changes to transactions that are part of a reconciled bank statement in one of the following ways:
  • If you try to change a transaction that is part of a partial reconciliation, only the transaction that you are trying to change will become unreconciled. The other transactions will remain reconciled.
  • If you try to change a transaction that is part of a completed reconciliation, all transactions will become unreconciled.
