How to install a service pack or a software update

Note We recommend that you review the steps in this section before you install a service pack or a software update.

To install a service pack or a software update on an Exchange Server computer that is running Antigen, follow these steps:
  1. Stop all Exchange Server services.

Note The Antigen services depend on the Exchange Server services. When you stop the Exchange Server services, the Antigen services will be stopped.
  2. Start a command prompt, and then run the following command:

    antutil /disable

When you run this command, Antigen is disconnected from Exchange Server. To run Antigen, open the Antigen for Exchange folder, and then double-click Antutil.exe.
  3. Install the service pack or the software update.
  4. Start Exchange Server, and then verify that all services are running.
  5. Stop all Exchange Server services.
  6. Start a command prompt, and then run the following command:

    antutil /enable

  7. Start the Exchange Server services.

An "Unapproved version of Exchange" error is logged

A service pack or a software update may contain a new version of the Exchange Server Ese.dll file. Every time that the Antigen services start, the services examine the version of the Exchange Server Ese.dll file against a list of compatible versions of the Ese.dll file. If the Exchange Server Ese.dll file is not on this list, an "Unapproved version of Exchange" error may be logged in the ProgramLog.txt file when you install the service pack or the software update. When this error occurs, the Realtime scan and all manual scans are disabled. You will not be able to start a manual scan.

Note A manual scan is not disabled if either of the following conditions is true:
  • The manual scan is running on a schedule.
  • The manual scan is a quick scan.
