Data is lost after you upgrade Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 to Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 (904741)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2005

SYMPTOMS

If you try to upgrade Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2000 to MOM 2005, you must have communication between the following items:
  • The database
  • The MOM Management Servers
  • The MOM agents
If the MOM agents or the MOM Management Servers cannot communicate to either the database or the MOM management server, the data that is related to the communication loss is saved in the queue files. However, these queue files are deleted during the upgrade. Therefore, the data can be lost.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, move all queue files to the %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft Operations Manager\Config Group Name folder that will be used in MOM 2005. To perform this task, follow these steps:
  1. Stop the OnePoint service before the upgrade from MOM 2000 to MOM 2005.
  2. Move all queue files in the %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Mission Critical Software\OnePoint\Config Group Name folder to the %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft Operations Manager\Config Group Name folder.
  3. Restart the OnePoint service, and then upgrade to MOM 2005.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
