You cannot query values for counters under the "Database==>Instances" performance object on a Windows 2000-based computer that is running Exchange Server 2003 (903292)

SYMPTOMS

You cannot query values for counters under the Database==>Instances performance object on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. However, if you first query the value for a counter under the Database performance object, you can query values for counters under the Database==>Instances performance object successfully.

WORKAROUND

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To work around this problem, remove the Object List entry from the registry:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ESE\Performance\Object List

  3. In the right pane, right-click Object List, click Delete, and then click Yes.
  4. Quit Registry Editor.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

You can use the Performance Monitor tool (Perfmon.exe) to query values for counters under the Database==>Instances performance object or under the Database performance object.
