The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft XML 3.0 SP1
  • Microsoft XML 3.0 SP2
  • Microsoft XML 3.0 SP3
  • Microsoft XML 3.0 SP4
  • Microsoft XML Parser 3.0 SP5

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft XML (MSXML) 3.0, when you try to close the Microsoft Internet Explorer window that you are using to display Extended Markup Language (XML) data in an Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) document, an access violation occurs.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you turn on the Auto-Select setting of the Encoding feature in Internet Explorer. When you do this, the DllCanUnloadNow function returns a status of S_OK for the Msxml3.dll file to close the Internet Explorer window. However, the Msxml3.dll file does not close the Internet Explorer window, and an access violation occurs.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, turn off the Auto-Select setting of the Encoding feature in Internet Explorer.
