The News command disappears after you try to add it to the Go menu in Outlook 2003 (902929)

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, configure Outlook Express as the default Newsgroups program. If this action does not resolve the issue, delete the .pip files. The deleted files will be automatically re-created.

Configure Outlook Express

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then click Programs.
3. In the Newsgroups box, click Outlook Express.
4. Click OK.
5. Quit Internet Explorer.
6. Add the News command to the Go menu in Outlook.

Delete the .pip files

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

1. Click Start, and then click Search.
2. In the Search Companion pane, click All files and folders.
3. In the All or part of the file name box, type *.pip.
4. Click More Advanced Options, and then click to select the following three check boxes:
   • Search System folders
   • Search hidden files and folders
   • Search subfolders
5. Click Search.
6. The Search Results window will display all the .pip files that are on the computer. You must delete only the .pip files that are related to your logon identity. Typically, the default path for the required files is as follows:

   C:\Documents and Settings\Your_User_ID\Application Data\Microsoft\Office

7. In the Search Results window, right-click the following files, and then click Delete:
   • MSOut11.pip
   • Word11.pip
8. Close the Search Results window.
9. Add the News command to the Go menu in Outlook 2003.
