The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
SYMPTOMSWhen you use the Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Exchange System Manager tool to perform one or both of the following operations, you experience a long delay: - You access the Message Tracking Center for the first time after the Exchange Server 2003 Exchange System Manager tool starts.
- You add a database to a recovery storage group.
In these scenarios, depending on the size of your organization, you may experience a delay of up to 30 minutes or longer. CAUSEThis problem occurs because the Exchange Server 2003 Exchange System Manager tool retrieves data that is not required from the Active Directory directory service when you perform the operations that are listed in the "Symptoms" section. In the scenario that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section, the following actions occur: - When you access the Message Tracking Center the first time after you start the Exchange Server 2003 Exchange System Manager, the Exchange Server 2003 Exchange System Manager tool initializes the Message Tracking Center. As part of this initialization routine, the Exchange Server 2003 Exchange System Manager retrieves all the attributes for every Microsoft Exchange Server database in the organization.
- Every time
that you add a database to a recovery storage group, the Exchange Server 2003 Exchange System Manager tool retrieves all the attributes for every Exchange Server database in the administrative group.
Therefore, in a large
organization, you may experience a significant delay when you try to perform the operations
that are mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
