- Microsoft Office Project Server 2003
SYMPTOMSAssume a situation where you perform a stress test on the Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 Web Access server. Additionally, the Project Server 2003 Web Access server is running Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6. In this situation, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms in the performance monitor when you view the W3WP instance: - A continuous use of memory. The amount of memory that is used never decreases.
- Inconsistent results for the Committed Bytes counter, the Available MBytes counter, and the Working Set counter.
CAUSEThis issue may occur when you use one of the following tools: - The Application Center Test (ACT) tool.
- A publicly available third-party Web stress tool.
Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 is not compatible with the automatic cookie handling capabilities of the ACT tool. Additionally, Project Server 2003 uses special characters to deliver and to maintain both session and user information. Because of this behavior, ACT scripts require a high amount of customization to correctly emulate a user in Project Server 2003. WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, use the SmokeTest tool for Project Server 2003. To obtain the SmokeTest tool, visit the following Microsoft Web site: Note Currently, there are no tools that are publicly available to provide a comprehensive stress test for Project Server 2003.
