You may receive a "0x8024402C" error message when you scan for updates on the Windows Update Web site (900936)

SYMPTOMSWhen you scan for updates on the Microsoft Windows Update Web site, you may receive the following error message: 0x8024402C CAUSEThis problem may occur if a proxy server is not configured in Microsoft Internet Explorer. In this scenario, the Windows Update control cannot access the Internet.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.
Method 1: Turn on the "Automatically detect settings" feature in Internet Explorer - Start Internet Explorer.
- On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
- Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings.
- Click to select the Automatically detect settings check box, and then click OK two times.
Method 2: Turn on the "Automatically detect ISA server" feature in ISA Firewall Client
If you are using Microsoft ISA Firewall Client, turn on the Automatically detect ISA server feature. To do this, follow these steps: - In Control Panel, double-click Firewall Client, or right-click the ISA Firewall Client icon in the notification area.
- Click Configure.
- Click to select the Automatically detect ISA server check box.
- Click Update Now, and then click OK.
