ACC: Network Users Can Open Their Own SYSTEM.MDW Exclusively (90851)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Access 1.0
- Microsoft Access 1.1
- Microsoft Access 2.0
- Microsoft Access for Windows 95 7.0
- Microsoft Access 97
This article was previously published under Q90851 SUMMARY
Advanced: Requires expert coding, interoperability, and multiuser skills.
Two users on the same network can open the same System.mdw file in
Microsoft Access 97 and 7.0 (SYSTEM.MDA file in 1.x and 2.0) exclusively.
Microsoft Access ignores the exclusive lock on a System.mdw file in a
multiuser installation.
MORE INFORMATION
Microsoft Access opens the system database nonexclusively on the network.
Subsequent requests to open the database ignore the read-only and
exclusive flags.
Because the System.mdw file is opened whenever a user logs on to the
database, opening the System.mdw file exclusively would lock out all
other users on the network.
