A TV show may not be completely recorded when you record live TV in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (899060)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

SYMPTOMS

When you record live TV in Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, the TV show may not be completely recorded. When this problem occurs, you do not receive a message that states that the recording was interrupted and is incomplete.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the computer uses a single TV tuner, and you change the TV channel in Media Center while you record TV. The problem occurs because the TV channel changes in Movie Maker when you change the TV channel in Media Center.

Note This problem is not limited to Windows Movie Maker. The problem may also occur when you use a third-party analog capture program to record TV on a computer that has a single TV tuner.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not change TV channels while you use Windows Movie Maker to record TV.

MORE INFORMATION

A TV tuner can tune to only one channel at a time. If you use two tuners, you can watch a show while you also record a show on another channel. For more information about how to use more than one TV tuner in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, visit the following Microsoft Web page:
