Federated users cannot send instant messages to internal users in Communication Server 2005 Enterprise Edition (898893)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
SYMPTOMSConsider the following scenario. An
archiving server is connected to a director in Microsoft Office Live
Communication Server 2005 Enterprise Edition. The director is used by the
Enterprise Edition pool.
In this scenario, federated users cannot send instant messages
to internal users. CAUSEThis problem occurs because of how the access proxies are configured. For example, the route that is followed by an invitation differs from the route that is followed by a message. When the two kinds of routes are set the same,
the archiving algorithm may break and the archiving server may not
work.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, do not enable the archiving service
on the Enterprise Edition pool.
Note The Enterprise Edition pool uses a director. However, the Standard Edition
pool does not use a director. STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
in the "Applies to" section.
