You receive the "Error 27765: failed to create LCS server database" error message when you try to install Live Communications Server 2005 or Live Communications Server 2005 Service Pack 1 (898891)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Enterprise Edition

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You remove the following programs from the computer:
  • Microsoft Live Communications Server 2005
  • Microsoft Live Communications Server 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
  • Microsoft SQL Desktop Engine (MSDE)
Then, you try to install Live Communications Server 2005 or Live Communications Server 2005 SP1 again. In this scenario, you receive the following error message when you try to install Live Communications Server 2005 or Live Communications Server 2005 SP1 again:
Error 27765: failed to create LCS server database
If you click Retry in the error message, you receive the following output in a Command Prompt window
Due to schema changes, the /clean option is required.

To preserve data, you must use this product's backup/export restore/import solution. Examine the product documentation for instructions.

Failed to create database rtcconfig

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot create file 'Drive:\LC Log\rtcconfig.ldf' because it already exists.
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check previous errors.

 Failed to create database rtcconfig

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check previous errors.
Then, the installation fails and rolls back.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the RTCConfig database files are not removed when you remove the programs that are mentioned in the "Symptoms" section. If you try to install these programs again, the installation fails when you try to create the same RTCConfig database files.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, delete following RTCConfig database files before you try to install Live Communications Server 2005 or Live Communications Server 2005 SP1:
  • The Rtcconfig.mdf file that is located at the following path:

    Drive:\LC Data

  • The Rtcconfig.ldf file that is located at the following path:

    Drive:\LC Log

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
