SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You are playing a video in Microsoft Windows Media Player. While the video is playing, you try to send or to accept an invitation to a video and voice conversation in Microsoft Office Communicator 2005. In this scenario, the video in Windows Media Player stops playing when you try to send or to accept an invitation to a video and voice conversation in Communicator 2005. Additionally, you may receive the following error message:

The video and voice conversation with buddy_name has ended.


Note that the video does not resume playing in Windows Media Player until you close the chat window for Communicator 2005.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Windows Media Player and Microsoft Office Communicator cannot share the video player resources that are on the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you must stop and close the video that is playing in Windows Media Player before you try to send or accept an invitation to a video and voice conversation in Communicator 2005.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
