You cannot start a sharing conversation session in Communicator 2005 (898860)

SYMPTOMS

You cannot start a sharing conversation session in Microsoft Office Communicator 2005.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Communicator 2005 uses NetMeeting to share a conversation. If NetMeeting is configured to use certificates, you cannot start a sharing conversation session in Communicator 2005.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the Use privacy (encryption) only option to configure the security setting in NetMeeting. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type conf in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Security tab.
  3. In the Certificates area, click Use privacy (encryption) only, and then click OK.
  4. Quit NetMeeting.
