You may hear sounds from NetMeeting when you try to use Application Sharing or the Whiteboard features in Communicator 2005 (898858)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Communicator 2005

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use Application Sharing or the Whiteboard features in Microsoft Office Communicator 2005, you may hear sounds from Microsoft NetMeeting when a person joins or leaves the meeting.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because a NetMeeting component lets the Application Sharing and the Whiteboard features function in Communicator 2005. The sounds that you hear are for events in the NetMeeting component. These events are not controlled by Communicator 2005.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, disable the sounds setting for NetMeeting. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type Mmsys.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. On the Sounds tab, click the NetMeeting event for which you want to disable the sound setting under Sound Events or Program events.
  3. In the Sounds box, click (None), click Yes, and then click Apply.

Note The default file name that is played when someone enters or leaves a meeting in NetMeeting is the Blip.wav file.
  4. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each sound that you want to disable.
