INTRODUCTIONThis article describes the Microsoft Office 2003 issues that are fixed in the hotfix package that is dated November 10, 2005. Issues that the hotfix package fixesThis hotfix package fixes the following issues. 899905 In PowerPoint 2003, when you try to open a presentation file was created in an earlier version of PowerPoint, the presentation file does not open, or the presentation file opens slower than you expect
900460 The Private Bytes counter in Performance Monitor may continually increase when an ActiveX control that is in an Office 2003 document is updated
900258 A hyperlink that contains three forward slashes contains only one forward slash when you insert the hyperlink into a Word 2003 document
905875 An Excel 2003 chart may be truncated or cutoff when you view or save the Excel 2003 chart as a Web page
This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article: - When you open a Microsoft Office Word 2003 document that has a smart document attached to it, the Word 2003 document does not open. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Microsoft Office Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
When you view the data in the error report, the error report contains an error signature that is similar to the following error signature: Application name | Application version | Module name | Module version | Offset | Winword.exe | 11.0.6359.0 | Mso.dll | 11.0.6408.0 | 000bdbe3 | This issue may occur if you use the keyboard to open the document from the list of recently used files. For example, you click the File menu and then press 3 to open the third document on the list of recently used files.
- You are working in a terminal services environment on a computer that is running a 64-bit version of Microsoft Windows,
such as Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise x64 Edition.
The first time that you open Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 in this environment, Outlook 2003 may unexpectedly quit. When Outlook 2003 quits, you do not receive an error message. However, you receive the following error message shortly afterward:
Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature that is similar to the following error signature: Application name | Application version | Module name | Module version | Offset | Outlook.exe | 11.0.6353.0 | Ntdll.dll | 5.1.2600.2180 | 000105f8 |
- When you refresh the data from a dynamic XML link in Microsoft Office Excel 2003, the data is not refreshed. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Error: Data Source not found. - A Group Policy object (GPO) has been applied on the computer to hide a specific drive. However, when you click the down-arrow in the Look in box in the Open dialog box in an Office 2003 program, the drive is still available.
- When you try to create a new appointment in Outlook 2003, Outlook 2003 unexpectedly quits. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

When you view the data in the error report, the error report contains an error signature that is similar to the following error signature: Application name | Application version | Module name | Module version | Offset | Outlook.exe | 11.0.5510.0 | Mso.dll | 11.0.5703.0 | 0006ed0e | This issue may occur if the following registry key has a "Null" value in the Server Name string: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\User Location Service\Client - In Excel 2003, you open a workbook that contains complex scripting. When the script is run, Excel 2003 may unexpectedly quit.

Description of Office 2003 Service Pack 2
- The full-file version of this hotfix is also the administrative version of this hotfix. You can install this version of the hotfix on a computer that is running Office 2003 with Service Pack 2 installed or Office 2003 with Service Pack 1 installed. However, we have tested this hotfix more extensively on Office 2003 with Service Pack 2 than we have on Office 2003 with Service Pack 1. If you install this hotfix on a computer that is running Office 2003 with Service Pack 1, some file conflicts might occur. We support this configuration, but we do not recommend this configuration.
Restart informationYou do not have to restart your computer after you apply this hotfix. Hotfix replacement informationThis hotfix is not replaced by any later hotfix. Registry informationYou must create a registry key or modify a registry key to use one of the hotfixes that this package contains.
