You cannot install Snipping Tool version 2.0 from the Microsoft Experience Pack for Tablet PC launcher (898582)

SYMPTOMS

If you try to install Snipping Tool version 2.0 from the Microsoft Experience Pack for Tablet PC launcher, you may experience any one or more of the following symptoms:
  • The Snipping Tool 2.0 Setup program may not finish.
  • The Snipping Tool 2.0 Setup program may stop responding.
  • The Snipping Tool 2.0 Setup Wizard may remain visible on the screen.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Experience Pack for Tablet PC launcher cannot detect an incomplete installation of Snipping Tool 2.0. An incomplete installation of Snipping Tool 2.0 occurs if the Snipping Tool 2.0 Setup program cannot correctly finish.

WORKAROUND

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To work around this problem, configure the Experience Pack for Tablet PC launcher to run the Snipping Tool 2.0 Setup program in interactive mode. To configure the Experience Pack for Tablet PC launcher to run the Snipping Tool 2.0 Setup program in interactive mode, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExperiencePack

  3. Right-click ExperiencePack, point to New, and then click String Value.
  4. In the Name box, type SnipUI.
  5. Leave the Data value box empty.
