The Disk Quota console shows two or more entries for the same user in Windows Server 2003 and in Windows 2000 (898075)

SYMPTOMSConsider the following scenario: - You have upgraded from a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 domain to an Active Directory directory service domain.
- You use the Disk Quota console to view the disk quotas for users in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or in Microsoft Windows 2000.
In this scenario, the Disk Quota console shows two or more entries for the same user. CAUSEThe Disk Quota console obtains disk quotas for users by querying the NTFS file system structure that references the security identifier (SID). This behavior occurs because an old SID is still present in the SIDHistory attribute. The new domain relies on the new SID. The Disk Quota console does not differentiate between the user name from a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 domain and the user name from an Active Directory domain.
RESOLUTIONTo avoid this issue, use the Active Directory Migration Tool or a third-party tool to convert all old SIDs in the files to new Active Directory SIDs after you upgrade a Windows NT 4.0 domain to an Active Directory domain. Because all users, groups, shared files, and folders are migrated to the new domain, you can remove the SIDHistory attribute and the Windows NT 4.0 domain.
