Outlook 2003 Junk E-mail settings that are created by using the Custom Installation Wizard are not applied when you deploy Office 2003 to client computers (897756)

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You deploy Microsoft Office 2003 to client computers. You use the Custom Installation Wizard to configure the junk e-mail protection level for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003. After you do this, the junk e-mail protection level in the Junk E-mail Options dialog box may not be set to the level that you had specified in the Custom Installation Wizard.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the value that is set in the JunkMailProtection registry entry is not imported into Outlook 2003 unless the DWORD value of the JunkMailImportLists registry entry is set to 1. By default, the DWORD value of the JunkMailImportLists registry entry is set to 0. Both registry entries are located in the following registry subkey:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Options\Mail

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, you can configure the Junk Mail Import List setting in the Custom Installation Wizard to import a Junk Mail list. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start the Custom Installation Wizard, and then open the Pro11.msi file.
  2. Open your custom transform for Office 2003.
  3. Open the Change Office User Settings page.
  4. Expand Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, expand Tools | Options, and then expand Preferences.
  5. Click Junk E-mail.
  6. Double-click Junk Mail Import List.
  7. Click Apply Changes.
  8. If the Check to turn off import of Junk Mail List check box is selected, click to clear the Check to turn off import of Junk Mail List check box.
  9. Click OK, and then click Finish.
  10. If you want to run the Setup program from the command line by using the updated transform file, copy the command line that is displayed. Otherwise, click Exit.
