SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, you receive the following message: The process Lsass.exe has initiated the shutdown of computer computername After you receive this message, the computer shuts down. Additionally, an event that is similar to the following is logged in the System event log: Event Source: USER32
Event ID: 1074
User: domain\username
Computer: computername
Description: The process Lsass.EXE has initiated the shutdown of computer computername

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article.
