The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006
  • Microsoft Office Small Business Management Edition 2006

SYMPTOMS

After you modify a customer name in Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting, the old customer name still appears on existing customer documents. The old customer name appears on existing customer documents even though the old customer name no longer exists in the Customer Name list.

Small Business Accounting is designed not to automatically update existing documents for customers. You must modify the document and then select the new customer name from the Customer Name list. However, this feature may not function correctly.

WORKAROUND

To work around these issues, follow these steps:
  1. In the Navigation Pane pane, click Customers.
  2. Under Find, click one of the following:
    • Quotes
    • Sales Orders
    • Invoices
  3. Double-click the document that you want to change.
  4. For a sales order or for an invoice, click Edit. Skip this step for a quote.
  5. In the Customer Name box, select any customer except the customer whose name you changed.

Note If you receive a message that states that a different customer has been selected, click Yes.
  6. In the Customer Name box, select the customer whose name you changed.

Note If you receive a message that states that a different customer has been selected, click Yes.
  7. Click Save and Close.

MORE INFORMATION

You can also combine two customer accounts. For more information, see the "Merge accounts" topic in the Small Business Accounting Help.
