FIX: Problems may occur with the SMBFILE module and with a DirectX component on a Windows CE .NET 4.2-based device (897249)

SYMPTOMS

You may experience the following problems on a Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.2-based device:
  • Problem 1
    When you use the SMB file server SMBFILE module to copy a file from one device to a second device, and a larger file that has the same name already resides on the second device, the copy process might not completely overwrite the file on the second device. The resulting file includes content from both the file that you copied and the larger file.
  • Problem 2
    When an MP3 file resides on one device, and you try to play the file on a second device, the file does not play. When this problem occurs, you receive an error message.

CAUSE

These problems occur because the following conditions are true:
  • Problem 1
    The SMBFILE module does not delete an existing file before it copies the new content over the original file. Additionally, the module does not truncate the original file when the copy operation is complete.
  • Problem 2
    A Microsoft DirectX component passes a parameter that is not valid when the component opens the MP3 file.

Prerequisites

This update is supported only if all previously issued updates for this product have also been installed.

Restart requirement

After you install this update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To clean the platform, click Clean on the Build menu. To build the platform, click Build Platform on the Build menu. You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this update.
