INTRODUCTION

This article describes the password change notification issues that are fixed in the latest build of the PCNS.

Issues that build 3.1.1030 fixes

When you use the PCNS on a domain controller (DC) that is running Microsoft Windows 2000, the domain controller may experience one or more symptoms. These symptoms include the following:
  • The domain controller may stop responding (hang).
  • The Local Security Authority Subsystem (LSASS) may unexpectedly quit (crash).
The PCNS has been fixed to work correctly on a domain controller that is running Windows 2000.

Issues that build 3.1.1016 fixes

This build corrects a problem where you cannot back up the system state when the PCNS is installed on a domain controller. After you install this build, you can successfully back up the system state.

Hotfix build information

Prerequisites

If you are installing the PCNS for the first time, see the product Help documentation for detailed instructions. The following information is noted in the Help documentation:
  • During the PCNS installation process, the Active Directory directory service schema is verified to make sure that the object classes and attributes that are required to run the PCNS are available. If the object classes and attributes are not available, you receive a message box that prompts you to log on as a member of the Schema Admins group. The message also prompts you to run the following command:

    MSIEXEC.EXE /i "Password Change Notification Service.msi" SCHEMAONLY=TRUE

This command extends the Active Directory directory service schema to include the object classes and attributes that are required to install and configure the PCNS.
  • You only have to extend the Active Directory directory service schema one time for each Active Directory directory service forest. The schema modifications are replicated to all other domain controllers. These attributes are not configured to be stored in the global catalog or to be indexed.

Hotfix build replacement information

This build of the PCNS replaces the following MIIS 2003 cumulative hotfix builds:

Service Pack 1 (SP1) (3.1.287.0)
