You receive a network congestion error message if you watch Live TV or Recorded TV on a Media Center Extender (897091)

SYMPTOMS

If you try to watch Live TV or Recorded TV on a Media Center Extender, you receive the following error message:
Network Congestion - There is not enough network bandwidth to provide a good TV experience. For more information, see Help. Would you like to watch TV anyway?
This symptom occurs even if you are using a high-speed network connection.

This symptom occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You are using a network adaptor that is built into the computer mainboard.
  • The computer mainboard uses the VIA 10/100 chip set.
  • The VIA 10/100 chip set is using the driver that is included with the computer mainboard.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because of an issue with the driver that is included with the computer mainboard.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the latest driver for the VIA 10/100 network adaptor. To install the latest driver for the VIA 10/100 network adaptor, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Visit the Microsoft Windows Update Web site

  1. Quit any running programs.
  2. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Update.
  3. In the Windows Update Web site, click Custom Install.
  4. In the right pane, click Select optional hardware updates.
  5. Click to select the VIA Network Interface Card check box.
  6. Click Go to install Updates.
  7. Click Install, and then follow the instructions on the screen.
  8. Restart the computer.

Method 2: Visit the VIA Web site
