Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 cannot detect the set-top box during Automatic TV Signal Setup (897090)

SYMPTOMSIf you run Automatic TV Signal
Setup, Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 cannot detect a set-top box. This symptom occurs if your TV tuner adaptor has multiple auxiliary
input ports.CAUSEThis behavior occurs because Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
cannot determine which auxiliary input port contains a TV signal. Some TV tuner adaptors have a
coaxial input, s-video input, or a composite input. Typically, the s-video input and
composite input share one input port. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, manually configure the
set-top box to work with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. To manually configure the
set-top box to work with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, follow these
steps. Part 1: Open the Optional Setup screen- Press the green Start button on the remote control to open
the Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Start page.
Important If you cannot see the
Welcome to the Media Center Setup wizard screen, follow these steps:
- Click Settings, click
General, and then click Media Center
Setup.
- Click Run Media Center Setup
Again.
- On the RUN SETUP AGAIN screen, click
Yes.
- In the Welcome to the Media Center Setup
Wizard, click Next 3 times.
- On the Get the Most from Media Center
screen, click Yes, and then click
Next.
- On the Always on Internet Connection
screen, click Yes, and then click
Next.
- On the Test Your Internet Connection
screen, click Next.
Part 2: Manually configure the TV signal- On the Optional Setup screen, click Configure tuners, TV signal, and Guide, and then click
Next.
- On the Confirm Your Region screen, confirm
your regional settings, and then click Next.
- On the Automatic TV Signal Setup screen,
click I will manually configure my TV signal, and
then click Next.
- On the Select Your TV Signal screen, click
Cable or digital cable, and then click
Next.
- On the Do You Have a Set-top Box screen,
click Yes, and then click Next.
Note If the computer has multiple TV tuners, you can see the How
many tuners do you want to configure screen. In this scenario, click to select the
appropriate number of TV tuners, and then select Next. - On the Prepare for Set-top Box Setup
screen, make sure that all the bulleted steps are completed, and then click
Next.
- On the Select a Working TV Signal screen,
click the correct signal input, and then click
Next.
- On the Set-top Box Remote screen, click Yes, and then click Next.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to
complete the installation.
