After you use User Accounts to change the name of an account, you can still use the old name to log on to the computer in Windows XP (897083)

SYMPTOMSAfter you use the User Accounts item in Control Panel to change the name of an account, you can still use the old name to log on to the computer.CAUSEThis behavior occurs because the changes that you make to the name of an account by using User Accounts only change the full name of the account. The user name of the account is not changed.WORKAROUNDTo work around this behavior, change the user name instead of the full name. To do this, follow these steps: - Click Start, click Run, type compmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
- Double-click System Tools, double-click Local Users and Groups, and then click Users.
- In the details pane, right-click the account name that you want to change, and then click Rename.
- Type the new name, and then press ENTER.
Note If you change the user name of the account, tasks that you schedule by using Scheduled Tasks may not run.
